Singleton Roosters’ junior duo Alex Stafa and Kalani Bates will set sail for Tasmania today ahead of the 2019 SSA (Schools Sports Australia) AFL Championships.

RISING STAR: Kalani Bates.

RISING STAR: Kalani Bates.

Both will take part in the 15 Years and Under tournament taking on teenage talents from across the nation across various grounds in Launceston, including AFL venue UTAS Stadium, Invermay Oval, NTCA Ground, University Oval and Youngtown.

Stafa was a part of the Northern NSW team which came second in the Combined High School’s competition and fourth overall earlier this year.

“Not bad for a kid who wasn’t sure whether to trial,” Singleton Roosters’ junior leader Sarah Williams said.

Bates, daughter of Singleton Roosters’ 2016 senior premiership hero Travis, also played for the AFL NSW Catholic Schools’ under-15 girls side which prevailed over three powerhouse opponents.

As a result, she was a shoe-in for the state side and will also play in this week’s national tournament.
